Year 10 Velodrome Trip
Just before half term, 18 of our Year 10 GCSE PE students were treated to a track cycling taster session in Herne Hill Velodrome. Little did our very sporty students know that track cycling would involve fast bikes without any brakes! A bit apprehensive at the start, all of our students gained in confidence very quickly due to the excellent coaches who guided our students safely through the course.
All students had a fantastic time and learnt not only the required track cycling techniques, but they were also able to improve team working skills and even had a race at the end of the session. What a brilliant day – everybody enjoyed it.
A big thank you to the Herne Hill Velodrome for providing such an amazing experience to our students and also to one of our students who completed some fundraising for the club and its youth development section, which meant that Graveney was offered this unique experience. Well done to everybody involved.
Who knows... maybe someone will follow in the footsteps of another Graveney alumnus, Ethan Hayter, pro-cyclist and World Championships medal winner, who also started in Herne Hill Velodrome. Watch this space...!
