Graveney School

Women in STEM event 19 October

On 19 October,  80 of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students attended our second Women in STEM event held at Graveney school, hosted by our Scientist in Residence Professor Emma Morris.

The focus of the event was to bring together a group of STEM professionals with a group of our young women to talk about STEM careers. They heard talk from a diverse range of speakers including Professor Morris (UCL) who spoke about her research in gene therapy to cure genetic diseases. Dr Daniela Bauer from Imperial College spoke about her work in Physics and Computing.
We were thrilled that three ex-students came back to speak; Lily Shepherd, Francesca Battersby and Hiba Benhamed talked about their careers in science film making , sustainability/carbon capture and investment banking  respectively.  Our students enjoyed how speakers talked about the choices they made to get where they are, some of the challenges they overcame and advice on next steps.

It was a great event with a really good atmosphere. Thank you to all our guests and to the staff who helped make it happen.
