Leavers’ Destinations

We are very proud of our students’ success in applying to Higher Education. Over 90% of leavers progress to University, some going in the Autumn after finishing their A levels and some taking a gap year first.
The Sutton Trust report in 2011 placed us in the top 100 Comprehensive schools in the UK for Oxbridge acceptances, and comparison of data released by Oxford and Cambridge Universities in 2016 shows that our acceptance rates to these two highly competitive universities continue to exceed rates for the maintained sector. Since 2010, 87 Graveney students have won places at Oxford or Cambridge, an average of nine students a year. In 2019, 49% of our UCAS applicants were accepted at Russell Group Institutions. Graveney students also successfully apply for creative arts programmes at a range of institutions including Art Colleges and Conservatoires.

We have strong links with a wide range
of universities!

We offer a comprehensive programme, beginning in Year 12 of information, advice and guidance to prepare students for applying to University: this includes advice for parents too on how they can support their child in the process, and our Alumni assist us in our support of applicants by sharing their personal experiences of University study with our current students. We have strong links with a wide range of universities, many of whom take part in events we run at School such as our very successful Next Steps Convention, held in June of Year 12. Our students attend University Visits, Taster Days, and Summer Schools, and we work with organisations such as the Sutton Trust and the Social Mobility Foundation to support and promote our students’ progression to University.

Almost all sixth form students are successful in their applications to higher education and employment. Students routinely gain places at Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities.
